CAC (customer acquisition cost) is the total cost of winning one new customer, including ad spend plus related sales and marketing costs, divided by the number of new customers in the same period.
How to calculate CAC
CAC = total sales & marketing cost ÷ new customers acquired
CAC vs CPA
- CPA usually counts only ad spend for one conversion (which might be a lead, not a customer).
- CAC counts everything it took to win a paying customer.
Why it matters
Compare CAC with LTV (lifetime value). A healthy business earns several times its CAC from each customer over time. Lowering CAC usually means better targeting, better creatives and better follow-up, like retargeting and fast replies on WhatsApp.
